An introduction.... because it's the most obvious place to start!

Hiya!
Welcome to my new blog, "Scrumtrelescent... a food blog". I'm Sarah, and I will be your faithful host.

First of all, I want to start off by saying that I have no formal cooking training what-so-ever.... that is, unless you count "Foods and nutrition 10" back in high school exactly 10 years ago (yikes!), which I won an award for, but still.... I'm no Chef. Or sous chef. Or line cook. Or even a freaking prep cook.

I have always liked cooking, and I have always had an intuition as to what tastes good. I'm just so dang lazy when it comes to cooking. After a long day at work, the absolute LAST thing I want to do is cook a meal. Soooooo, we enjoy a lot of the city's fine take-out. This can get expensive, and so I decided that my new years resolution would be to "become more domesticated" and learn to cook some meals, among other things. My first attempt at this turned out amazingly well. I made a meal out of a Rachel Ray cookbook I got for Christmas from my dear friend Devon (who is hands-down the most amazing cook I know.) Gyro burgers and spicy greek salad. Pretty basic, but still.... tasty. Then I saw my friend Katie had started a food blog after watching Julie and Julia (which, for the record I would like to say I have NOT seen!). This inspired me somewhat. I thought about doing the same thing.... but then thought better of it for fear of her thinking I *gasp* copied her.... then I clean forgot about it.
Until I started cooking dinner tonight... and, well, here we be!

The last part of my mandatory introduction here is to just explain WHY this blog is called what it's called...

Scrumtrelescent.
If you are a fan of SNL, or Will Ferrel, chances are you've seen the skit where he portrays James Lipton of "Inside the Actor's Studio". If you haven't... I would suggest going to youtube BUT they have that thing with NBC so you kinda can't watch it and (wow, redundant)
Here is a definition I pulled from Urban Dictionary.
Scrumtrelescent
Describes something whose characteristics of perfection are profoundly unfathomable.

Originated from an SNL skit where Will Ferrell was impersonating James Lipton, the host of "Inside the Actors Studio". While interviewing Charles Nelson Reilly, describing the TV show "Match Game", he said:

"That show was delightful. No. No. It was brilliant. No, no, no, no. There is no word to describe its perfection, so I am forced to make one up. And I’m going to do so right now. Scrumtrelescent."

I was sitting here thinking about what to name my blog. Naming is crucial. If your blog has a shitty name, you have a shitty blog. I thought back to how much I enjoyed the last meal I made from zero. I thought back to a couple of weeks ago when Dan brought ribs home, and we didn't have BBQ sauce or any money to go BUY BBQ sauce, and I looked in the cupboards and basically pulled the MOST AMAZING BBQ SAUCE EVER out of my ass. The only word I could think of to desribe these instances was simply, Scrumtrelescent.

I hope that all my future meals will live up to the word, but even if they don't I'll still share 'em with ya! deal?

Oh, and here's a little pearl of wisdom for ya: a veggie peeler for $2.99 found in the grocery store is NOT a good deal. What it is, is crap. lesson learned.
